During the last few years a number of first-class
microscopes were developed for the clarity grading of diamonds. The
following paragraphs wll1 introduce a few comparable models. Apart from
the mentioned instruments there are also other microscopes, mainly of a
simpler type, on the market.
The choice of microscope should be determined by the personal
requirements of the grader. It is dependent on the amount of work, the
position and the knowledge of the grader, as the use of a microscope for
diamond grading depends on practical experience: It is also dependent on
whether the microscope is to be used solely for diamond grading, or
whether it should also be adapted for the testing of colored stones and
have corresponding fittings.
